Dedication Day Ceremonies – Old Guard Field

Manheim Township School District

 

One hundred years ago, nine citizens of this county got together and formed an insurance company to help their neighbors should fire or storm damage their property.  These nine ordinary people did all the work of the company … for free!! … they were volunteers.  And when the annual salary of $100 was set for the first employee, it was in paid cash at the end of the year … not weekly/direct deposit.

 

Well, much has changed since 1896 at Old Guard Insurance.  But, as part of our centennial celebration, we wanted to honor our founders’ spirit of helping the community by giving something back to the community we call home.

 

The lighting project for this ball field and the ongoing improvement projects of the Dugout Club are something Old Guard is proud to support with our centennial gifts.  We believe the benefit goes beyond the immediate Manheim Township area with league championships and district play a future possibility.  We would hope that players, coaches and spectators would all look forward to baseball “under the lights” on an outstanding playing field.

 

Youth athletics builds character through responsibility and teamwork.  How one handles adversity or success are lessons of life learned through athletics.  Old Guard Insurance considers our support of a project that fosters youth athletics to be a privilege and a community responsible act that these youth may emulate when in future they lead our corporations, institutions and governments.

 

Many people need to be thanked for their support efforts and labor in making Old Guard Field what we see here today.

To commemorate this dedication day and inaugural high school baseball game on Old Guard Field, Old Guard has made it possible for the Dugout Club to give a limited edition New Era pro model cap to each participant and coach of tonight’s game
